McCanns: Our search goes on
MISSING Madeleine McCann’s parents last night vowed to keep up the search for their daughter after the latest sighting was ruled out.
CCTV images of a blonde girl walking with a woman in Brussels had raised hopes of finding Maddie.
But yesterday the girl’s dad came forward after seeing images published by The Sun.
He told Belgian cops: “That’s not Madeleine, it’s my daughter.”
Kate and Gerry McCann, from Rothley, Leics, thanked The Sun for its investigation.
Spokesman Clarence Mitchell added: “Kate and Gerry would also like to thank this girl’s parents for going to police.
“It is disappointing news but they have been in this position before and the hunt for Madeleine will continue. Every sighting raises awareness which is a good thing. When it is in people’s minds they are looking out for her which is what we need.”
The Sun told how a security guard alerted cops after hearing the girl ask in English: “Can we go back now?” And a nearby ice cream vendor said he believed he had served Maddie.
We passed the CCTV film to the McCanns before Belgian cops were told it showed a local girl with her Moroccan nanny.
Maddie vanished from her family’s holiday flat in May 2007.
